The Renewal Process
The renewal process is a routine evaluation during the last year of a charter school鈥檚 contract to see if the school will receive another contract to continue operating in the future. The renewal process is based on a school鈥檚 SPRI (School Performance Renewal Index) and what kind of growth it made with its students. The SPRI uses the same components that the state uses for its School Performance Scores (SPS scores) but weights the components differently so that growth has greater importance. For most schools, the SPRI looks at the last two years of a school鈥檚 SPS data. If a school is in its first contract, it is the better of either the most recent year鈥檚 data or the average of its two most recent years鈥� data. A school鈥檚 financial and organizational performance can also impact renewal.
