NOLA PUBLIC SCHOOLS SCHOOL PERFORMANCE SCORES SHOW IMPROVEMENT
The District's School Performance Score improved more than 4 points, and 90% of Ì첩ÌåÓý received a progress index score of "A" or "B".[1]
(NEW ORLEANS â€ November 20, 2024) â€ Today, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) released the School Performance Scores (SPS) for the 2023-2024 and Ì첩ÌåÓý (NOLA-PS) is delighted to be recognized in the state for most growth. 90% of Ì첩ÌåÓý received a high letter grade for academic progress, of either "A" or "B", for the 2023-2024 school year. These accomplishments result in the school system nearly becoming a "B" rated system by one point but maintaining "C" letter grade for performance overall.
"I'm incredibly proud of our scholars, their families, educators, and our school leaders for the amazing work they've done to continue to increase their academic excellence year over year. From 2022 to 2024, the overall District Performance Score has increased by 7.4 points, from a 66.6 to a 74," said Superintendent of Ì첩ÌåÓý, Dr. Avis Williams. "Our district has not only recovered from the effects of COVID-19. Our district has surpassed our pre-COVID-19 student performance levels, and we have the highest District Performance Score we've ever had under the current SPS model. While we celebrate these gains, we know we still have a lot of work to do, and NOLA-PS will continue to build a solid foundation for our scholars' social, emotional, and academic growth."
The 2023-2024 SPS results shared by the LDOE summarize the cumulative impact of our local schools, specifically showing:
- Showing strong improvement year over year, the District's overall score increased for the third consecutive year. Ì첩ÌåÓý saw an increase in its District Performance Score (DPS) of more than 4 points from 2023 and maintained its overall letter grade of "C".
- Several district schools demonstrated growth. From 2023 to 2024, 48 schools (75%) showed an overall improvement in their SPS, ranging from 1 point to 27 points, including two alternative schools that improved by 4 and 12.6 points respectively.
- Students in Ì첩ÌåÓý continue to make meaningful progress year over year. 90% of Ì첩ÌåÓý received progress letter grades of "A" or "B".
- Several schools have been recognized for their outstanding impact on student growth and helping historically disadvantaged students excel. 20 Ì첩ÌåÓý received Top Gains Honoree recognition, and 6 schools were named Opportunity Honorees.
Fourteen schools improved by at least one letter grade, or 22% of schools. Notably, there are no schools in the district receiving an "F" letter grade, highlighting our commitment to maintaining academic standards. However, one traditional school and one alternative school dropped from a letter grade in 2024, and another school, evaluated for the first time in 2024, earned a "D".
"We are inspired by the progress of many of our schools and congratulate them for their hard work and dedication. While there's more to do, the data drives our commitment to retaining great teachers and supporting them in delivering high-quality instruction. NOLA-PS will continue to emphasize arts, sports, and extracurriculars to ensure well-rounded development," said Dr. Williams. "Along with its charter school leaders, NOLA-PS will continue to strive for excellence in education because that's what scholars, families, and the New Orleans community deserve."
