Ì첩ÌåÓý Superintendent’s Statement on the Passing of William “Billâ€ Rouselle, Jr.
(New Orleans â€ July 22, 2024) â€ It is with a heavy heart that we at Ì첩ÌåÓý (NOLA-PS) mourn the passing of William "Bill" Rouselle, Jr., a beloved New Orleanian whose motto, "Speak Truth to the People," and commitment to equity and justice touched countless lives.
Bill's career spanned over 40 years, during which he provided invaluable services to many, including Ì첩ÌåÓý. His efforts as a political strategist and advocate for inclusivity have left a lasting impact on our community.
From being the first African American on-air news reporter in New Orleans to his leadership roles in the Free Southern Theater and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, Bill's dedication to truth and justice was unwavering. Post-Katrina, his expertise was instrumental in ensuring citizen participation in the city's redevelopment, including our school system's School Facilities Master Plan.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
With deepest condolences,
Dr. Avis Williams
Superintendent, Ì첩ÌåÓý
